The Dobratsch: a natural paradise right on your doorstep Villach Alpine Road is the perfect excursion destination for anyone who wants to get out into the natural surroundings quickly and into ‘proper’ nature! After all, it takes just a few minutes to get from Villach-Möltschach - where the pay desk is located – quickly up the mountain through the twists and turns, until extensive views to Villach, the Julian Alps and the Karawanken open up in front of you. Continuing your journey, this view-packed road then follows the escarpment of the impressive mountain ridge, until it heads beyond the treeline, via Alpine meadows to the finish point at Rosstratte, which provides views to the Dobratsch summit. There could hardly be any more nature in such a short space of time!

Villach Alpine Road also provides access to a genuine natural gem – Dobratsch Nature Park, which preserves the natural and cultural landscape in equal measure. In the heart of the Dobratsch Nature Park, you get to enjoy unique, beautiful panoramic views and perspectives to the biggest landslide area in the East Alps – all on the southern flanks of Villach’s local mountain. Alpengarten is a special botanic feature, designed and tended by volunteers. It is here that around 800 local Alpine plants grow – with truly wonderful flowers in spring and summer, where things buzz and hum, flutter and flap.
